Regather Make workshop boosted by university ceramics kiln

The forthcoming Regather Make tools workshop has received generous donation of a ceramics pottery kiln from the University of Sheffield Archaeology Department.

The device, which is traditionally used by potters to harden clay after they have made an item such as a bowl, will be installed at Club Garden Road in the coming weeks – ready for its opening in around two months.

Trader, Barney Harris, said: “A variety of different types of trading activity will, at some point or other, often find the need for a practical, well kitted out space to build something physical.

“The workshop creates the opportunity for a trader to regularly use it to produce a saleable product or even as a maintenance/repair workshop.“

The donation adds to a grant received for the project of £1440 from Sheffield City Council, Central Community Assembly.

Funds from this have gone towards buying items such as power tools and materials and renovating a workbench left from the buildings previous tenant.

In future tutor led sessions and workshop projects will be held at Regather Make and the Co-operative has made a budget of £1000 available for this.
